FLO from Riley Hooper on Vimeo.

Despite blindness, multiple sclerosis, and lung cancer, photographer Flo Fox continues to shoot the streets of New York City. No longer able to hold a camera, she instructs her aides to take photos for her. She’s an incredible woman with a feisty spirit, sharp wit, and dirty sense of humor.

A view of Amsterdam from the water in a 150 year old canal saloon. A lovely afternoon with the Rainaeu clan, and a perspective on the city worth experiencing. The boat itself is a city monument, which is an impressive status for a daily tour boat. Thanks to the captain for an excellent trip, and participating in my chatiness!

A quintessential, stunning and perhaps slightly cliche view of an Amsterdam canal. This city has one hell of an aesthetic to it, one that in many ways remains incomparable to almost all others I’ve been in to date. I wonder if it is really so unique, or if it has more in common with parts of Belgium that I have yet to know?

Now that I’ve relearned the city and know my way around, I’m enjoying the reality of it’s problems, politically, socially and underground as they contrast with the special nature simply walking around the town forces onto you. And if that doesn’t make any sense to the reader, that’s ok, it’s just one more sign of the inspirations and influences that are a natural part of being here. Come visit, trust me it’s worth it.

Good morning Amsterdam.

In the middle of this epic town sits a little village if it’s own, the Bejinhof. A tiny secluded set of buildings dedicated to living space and support of woman who have chosen to follow the faith but have not taken the vows of a nun.
Apart from this sounding like a half-way home for religion, it’s a beautiful place, silent and peaceful, blocked off from a world which only several blocks away has massive Gucci stores and the sex and eroticism of the red light district.
It’s good to be back in Amsterdam, full of contradictions and the Dutch themselves, who don’t really give a shit about much… A trait that apart from in politics, leaves them a generally positive and open minded people.

Warsaw weekend, day 1 - Warsawa Centralna

My first time back in this city is a brief and spontaneous experience. After 2+ years away and much longer since a proper stay, I find myself excitedly lost in how much the city had evolved. The area of my apartment alone seems to have formed a whole new personality to what I remember, full of clean side walks, newly painted buildings and modern cars. And where the city once felt dominated by the old, the trams now are packed with the young, giving it a vibrant and modern feel, falling away from Eastern European stereotypes. This new Warsawa is still very small, and very centralized, but even after a single day has provided a whole new set of motivations around my relationship to this country, and my family’s history here. I’m proud to be holding a Polish passport, and I aim to once again understand its culture and language, living up to the name I’ve been given.

It’s just too bad Stalin’s penis tower is still at the middle of it all…

Sacre Coeur, perhaps Paris’s religious hot spot, claims its fame by having had someone praying on its premises 24/7 for 125 years running. Non-stop praying, all the time. That’s over 1 million hours of praying, so god is clearly happy about it, though it didn’t stop half of it getting blown to bits in WW2. Sarcasm aside, the panoramic view of Paris from here is fantastic, check out our Facebook tomorrow to see the full panorama I took from 180 degrees after taking this image if the church!
